Did you know in 2010, Southampton Airport celebrated 100 years of flying in South Hampshire? That’s an amazing achievement by anyone’s standards and we’re happy to report it’s still going strong today! So, if you’re living nearby, we’ve been looking at some of the best destinations where you can have a sun, sea and sand break, a family get together in some good weather or a chilled out skiing getaway.?

We like to make it easy for you to decide your holiday, so we’ve been developing a couple of local community destination guides! Check out our guides to airports in Manchester, Liverpool and Cardiff, and stay tuned for more on the way (by the way, if you would like your local airport featured, let us know.) Here are some of our picks for holidays from Southampton in 2014.

So where to start?

  • Well, Ibiza is known as party central. And there’s a reason why. It’s seen as the birthplace of rave and still boasts some of the best clubs in Europe. On top of that the beaches are brilliant. There’s never been a better time to hop on a flight just a few hours from home to hit the beaches by day and clubs all night.
  • Split in Croatia is absolutely perfect for a relaxed summer holiday. The pebbly beaches are filled with sun seekers, the crystal clear waters are perfect for a bit of snorkeling and the mouth watering food on offer is the perfect accompaniment to an evening watching the sunset. It’s kind of been one of those best kept secrets, but we’re happy to share it! If you’re near Southampton, we reckon you should get booking now for an amazing sun holiday.
  • Fly to Verona in Italy from Southampton, where you can combine a relaxed break with pizza and sunshine, beaches with cocktails, sightseeing and strolling, or history and partying. Italy is one of those places people talk about for ages! We’re looking forward to see your pictures when you get back.
  • The airport at Faro in Portugal is the perfect base to get started on your holiday. It is home to some of the best resorts in Europe and so close to the UK there’s no reason not to go. Choose from Albufeira for a party all night, relax on the beach all day kind of getaway. Carvoeiro is ideal for families looking for a chilled out break with a bit of space for sand castle building, or Faro itself is good for golf, if that’s what you’re into!
