Are you flying from Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield Airport?

Amid scandal of malicious tweets (a man living in Doncaster has recently won his court case after he tweeted that he would blow up the Airport when it closed after heavy snow), this international airport is located on the former RAF Finningley base. In fact, during the First World War, Robin Hood Airport Sheffield Airport was used as a base by the Royal Flying Corps as they intercepted German Zeppelins targeting the industrial cities in northern England.

When in 2005, low-cost flights and an increase in passenger demand made a new commercial airport feasible; Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield was reopened (despite some 11,000 people signing a petition to oppose it). However, today the airport has a single runway designated 02/20, with a length of 2,893 by 60 m (9,491 by 197 ft), making it longer and wider than those at many other airports in northern England.

Inside the passenger terminal are 24 check in desks, six departure gates and three baggage carousels, not to mention excellent sahopping and eating opportunities. There’s Alpha Airport Shopping for duty-free, W H Smith to pick up some magazines for the flight and The Amy Johnson (Wetherspoons) offering everything from fine coffee to global beers, wines and champagnes. Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield has also just introduced WiFi Access for its passengers and a First Choice Kids Corner in the departure lounge, making flying from Doncaster that little bit easier. Just be careful what you tweet!
