Mahon
Our opinion about Mahon
Simply beautiful, Mahon is about as unspoilt as any capital city can get. It is just 15 minutes from the airport and is possible the island’s best kept secret. Ideal for families who want to mix beach fun with a little historical exploring and soak up traditional Balearics culture.
The port is perfect for people watching, with boats ranging from huge cruise liners to tiny fishing boats vying for space. Although there is no beach in Mahon itself, the water park is perfect for families looking for a day out – and there are plenty of sandy spaces nearby to soak up the sunshine. In the centre of the town you’ll find lots of opportunities for sightseeing, with its brilliant opera house and historic baroque church of Santa Maria among the biggest draws.
Cosy tavernas and restaurants compete to sell top paella, huge, juicy freshly caught prawns, and is apparently the birthplace of mayonnaise! So grab a fish and mayo to go and tuck in as you stroll the winding streets.
