Cascais

Our opinion about Cascais

Although not far from Lisbon, Cascais is far removed from its hustle and bustle; the town is made up of small, picturesque beaches and completely serene waters, with the exception of a few bobbing fishing boats. However due to its recent popularity, the town has developed into an attractive resort, with elegant shops, a wide variety of cafes and restaurants and a fantastic selction of hotels added into the landscape. It is a sophisticated place to relax, with a distinctly laid-back atmosphere, a far cry from the stresses and straisn of everyday life. Some sights to take in while on one of our holidays in Cascais are the 16th century parish church, with its carved and gilded altar and the Cascais Municipal Museum, housed in the Palace of the Counts of Castro Guimarães. The Museum features rare Indo-Portuguese-style furniture, along with a library of over 25,000 books (including some 17th century editions and a 1505 illuminated manuscript). It even has a small zoo! The Sea Museum on the other hand, is a picture of the town's relations with the Atlantic Ocean, including old maps, fishermen's clothing, model boats and shipwreck treasure. At PurpleTravel.co.uk, we have a huge range of hotels in Cascais, with accommodations for every type of traveller available.
